Why Failure Isn't Failure at All

I want to revisit a story I told a while back on my podcast, Master Your Mission. It’s about James Dyson, the founder and CEO of Dyson the vacuum cleaner company.

Dyson failed, repeatedly, to build the vacuum cleaner that he dreamed of building and putting on the market—his signature G-Force vacuum cleaner. In fact, he failed 5,126 times.

It was on the 5,127th time that he succeeded at building it. Even after he successfully created his prototype, he was rejected by every manufacturer and distributor in the UK, because they didn’t like his bagless design.

It took him 15 years and almost his entire savings to develop his innovative vacuum cleaner, which is the best selling vacuum cleaner in the US— eventually making him a billionaire. Dyson said that each of the 5,126 failures taught him something new that led to his eventual success.

Now, James Dyson was way more committed to his dream than most of us will ever be. I’d argue...

10 Affirmations to Keep You Focused on Your Goal

I’ve been talking about goals all week, and I’ve been encouraging you to join my 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge—where you’ll take action every day for 66 days toward a goal you have. Whether you join the Challenge or not, working toward your goals is an important part of your personal happiness and growth in life.

Since I’ve already done this Challenge once, myself, I know that there will be ups and downs in those 66 days. There will be days you want to quit. There will be days where you just don’t feel like putting forth any effort. There will be days where you feel like you just aren’t making progress. But you have to stay the course.

When you don’t have the tools already in place to help you through those rough patches, you may very well give up. That’s why it’s important to have a support system and to be prepared to do the mental work that it will take to get through bad days. You have to actively...

I'm Introducing Myself to a New Person Every Day for 66 Days

In the 66 Days of Bold Action episode of my podcast, Master Your Mission, I talked about my experience of taking one bold action per day for 66 days. In that episode, I talk about how doing that affected me and changed me for the better. If you haven’t heard it yet, go check it out.

I also mentioned, in that episode, that I’m ready to do it again. I’m ready to take one bold action per day for 66 days to get me out of my comfort zone and closer to achieving a goal, so I asked for your help.

I wanted you to help me choose what my bold action would be, and I gave you three options to choose from.

A) Wake up every morning at 4 am.

B) Go Live every day on social media.

C) Introduce myself to someone new every day.

The overwhelming winner, was—of course—C) Introduce myself to someone new every day.

So during my 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge, that starts July 15th, I’ll be going up to some random person every day for 66 days to...

9 Steps to Creating Habits You Love

Most of the time when people hear the word “habit”, they think of something bad, but habits can be good, bad, and anywhere in between. Believe it or not, we each have an endless number of habits that we perform daily without even realizing we’re doing it.

Have you ever thought about how many habits do you have? That’s probably a really hard question to answer because it’s likely that you have hundreds—maybe even thousands.

Think about it. From the time you wake up in the morning until the time you go to bed, you repeat routine after routine after routine. For instance, the time you wake up every morning may be a habit. Listening to music as you get dressed may be a habit. The way you drink your coffee or eat your eggs may be a habit and on and on. Repeating those routines eventually forms habits.

Studies have shown that it takes, on average, 66 days to form a habit. That means that if you repeat the same routine for 66 days...

Setting SMART Goals

In honor of my upcoming 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge, that starts on July 15th, I want to revisit a topic that we’ve talked about a lot here, and that’s goal setting.

When you set goals, you establish direction in your intentions, your actions, and your thoughts. It’s’ like setting a destination in your GPS—you decide where you’re going and you take the necessary steps to get there.

Believe it or not, there’s a science to setting goals effectively and putting yourself in the best possible position to actually achieve those goals. Of course, when we set goals, we want to succeed at accomplishing them and not just set them for the sake of setting them.

So let’s revisit how to effectively set goals, and crush them.

First, a little history. In 1981, a guy named George Doran wrote a paper that appeared in Management Review called, There’s a S.M.A.R.T. way to write management’s goals and objectives. In it, he used...

Check Your Internal Screen Door

When I was growing up, most of the houses in my neighborhood had a screen door on the front and back doors. Some of you may know what I’m talking about because you may have grown up with the same type of screen door on your house, and I’m sure there are still homes with those screen doors on them today.

The screen door acted as a barrier between the front door and outside. One of the coolest things about the screen door is that, if you wanted to leave your front door open, you could and the screen door would keep out the things you didn’t want in your house.

If you wanted your home to catch a nice breeze from outside, you’d leave your door open so wind would blow in and screen doors would keep out the bugs, animals and random people. If you’re from the country, you probably know what I’m talking about.

The screen door allowed you to see what was on the other side of the screen, but protect your space from any old thing just...

I Challenge You to 66 Days of Bold Action!

Today, I want to tell you about a Challenge that I really want you to be a part of. It’s my new 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge.

This Challenge is based on the experience I’ve shared in past episodes of my podcast, Master Your Mission, called One Bold Action Per Day. That experience helped me work through the fear of starting my podcast and doing the things that I was afraid of doing for my business.

As I’ve discussed in previous articles about the experience I had, it led to such growth in my business and in my life, that I really want to share the process with you as much as possible.

So back to the Challenge. The 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge encourages you to be bold and take massive action to accomplish your biggest goals. Here’s how it works…

Every day, for the duration of the 66 days of the challenge, you’ll take at least one bold action toward any goal(s) you want to accomplish.

To qualify as bold, the action you take must meet...

Can You Compete with Your Goliath?

When I tell people that I record a daily podcast, they usually react with shock and awe—especially other podcasters. They think I’m out of my mind, crazy for doing this. They get how hard it is to come up with content and then be disciplined enough to record, edit, mix etc. every single day.

I won’t lie. It’s hard as hell. Some days I have a hard time coming up with ideas to talk about. Some days I have plenty of ideas but I just can’t get the content going. And some days, I just simply don’t feel like doing shit.

No matter what my mood is, what my plans are that day, or how tired I am, I record my podcast. Honestly, I credit my 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge with helping me commit the way I have.

I committed to doing this podcast daily, so I push those feelings aside and I do my podcast anyway. One of the things that drives me to do it every single day, no matter what, is that I know most people don’t have the discipline to do something...

Hi, I'm KP The Worrying Warrior

I’m a fighter. I don’t mind going after what I want in life because I’m just one of those people who don’t do well in unhappiness. When I’m unhappy with something, it nags at me and nags at me until I just have to do something about it.

And I think one of my best qualities is that I’m resilient af. When my mind is made up about something, it’s almost impossible to get me to stop pursuing whatever that thing is.

But. As much as I’m a fighter, I’m also a worrier. It may be the Capricorn in me who always has to have a plan for every single thing, and then a backup plan for the plan, and a backup plan for the backup plan, but when I’m focused on something, I’ll think through every possible scenario that could possibly occur.

The problem with that is that sometimes that can backfire on me. Sometimes thinking through every possible scenario lands me in a doubtful, negative, pessimistic place that I then have to dig...
