66 Days of Positive Thinking?

As you may very well know, today marked day one of my 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge. I have a great tribe of Goal Getters who are all in the Challenge pushing themselves to accomplish a major goal they have.

And today, I pushed myself way outside of my comfort zone and introduced myself to 3 new people. Here’s a picture for proof!

So one thing that I know from the first time that I did this Challenge, is that every day won’t be easy. It will most certainly get difficult to stay motivated to keep going.

Keeping the right mindset and thinking positive thoughts is crucial to getting through this Challenge. And when things aren’t going exactly as you would want them to go, that’s when you need to be positive the most.

As I always say, positivity is a choice—which means, so is negativity. You have to actively choose to think positive thoughts, which takes a ton of effort.

To help you choose positive thoughts, I thought we could revisit...

Even When It's Hard To, Be Grateful

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why me?”

I know I have plenty of times. Sometimes life and circumstances can have you feeling like up is down and down is down. Problems you would rather avoid can hit you out of the blue and really take your head out of the game.

I experience this, I’m sure you experience this, and I would imagine we all do—even the most successful of people. In fact, I watched the women’s Wimbledon finals this morning. Serena Williams was playing—I’m a Serena fan—but today she just wasn’t at her best.

She got beat pretty badly. I didn’t watch to see what she had to say about the match in her interview afterward, but as I watched her play, I wondered whether she has moments where she asks, “Why me?” like the rest of us.

I thought about all the millions of dollars she makes as a tennis player and business woman. I thought about the millions of adoring fans she has, all over the...

10 Affirmations to Keep You Focused on Your Goal

I’ve been talking about goals all week, and I’ve been encouraging you to join my 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge—where you’ll take action every day for 66 days toward a goal you have. Whether you join the Challenge or not, working toward your goals is an important part of your personal happiness and growth in life.

Since I’ve already done this Challenge once, myself, I know that there will be ups and downs in those 66 days. There will be days you want to quit. There will be days where you just don’t feel like putting forth any effort. There will be days where you feel like you just aren’t making progress. But you have to stay the course.

When you don’t have the tools already in place to help you through those rough patches, you may very well give up. That’s why it’s important to have a support system and to be prepared to do the mental work that it will take to get through bad days. You have to actively...

What Do You Think About Yourself?

I want you to take a moment and finish each of the following statements with the first thought that comes to mind.

  1. I can…
  2. I have…
  3. I believe…
  4. I am…

Did you finish those statements with positive thoughts about yourself or negative thoughts about yourself?

In a perfect world, it would always be easy for us to affirm positive thoughts about ourselves, but sometimes we can end up in a mental space that causes our brains to be overrun by negativity. When we find ourselves there, it can be hard to see our way out.

Self doubt is something that we’ve all struggled with at some point in our lives, so if you’re currently struggling, you shouldn’t feel like you’re in this alone. It’s a human thing to go through, and you happen to be human.

Turning any negative thoughts you might have into positive ones takes deliberate decision making. Even when you’re feeling confident and good about yourself, you have to be fiercely...

You Are What You Eat - Mentally

Do you remember the 2004 documentary Super Size Me? To refresh your memory, an independent filmmaker by the name of Morgan Spurlock made a movie documenting his life as he ate McDonald’s three times a day for 30 days.

If you just gagged, trust me, I understand why.

For that entire 30 day period, he ate only McDonald’s, and by the end of that 30 days, he had eaten everything on the menu at least once. I can’t help but to wonder if that includes the McRib—which really grosses me out, but I digress.

So by the end of the documentary, Spurlock had gained 24 lbs—remember this is over the course of only 30 days—and he had given himself high cholesterol, sexual dysfunction, mood swings, and he had accumulated fat on his liver.

He consumed really unhealthy food and quickly became unhealthy physically. He had to put in some serious work and dedication to correct the damage that he had done to his body.

It took him a year and two months,...

5 Ways Music Can Motivate You In Business

Music is a huge part of our daily lives. We wake up to music, drive to music, work out to music, fall in love to music, party to music, worship to music and so, so much more.

Music evokes emotion like no other art form. It can make you laugh and make you cry. It creates memories that last forever and triggers nostalgia that can make something that happened a decade ago feel like it happened yesterday.

When you’re feeling down, dancing to your favorite upbeat track or singing a ballad at the top of your lungs can make you feel like a brand new person. The effect that music has on our mood can be used to empower us when we need motivation the most. As a business owner, that’s often.

As I’ve discussed in previous episodes of my podcast, Master Your Mission, it takes a lot of conscious effort to keep your mind in the game and choose positivity over negativity. Check out the 10 Ways to Avoid Negativity Creep and Choose Positivity Instead episode of my...

If You Want to Be Successful, Stop Giving Your Energy to Emotional Panhandlers

You’ve seen them before, especially if you’re from a big city. Panhandlers—the people who stand on the corner of a busy intersection with a sign asking for your spare change or something to eat. Most times, they do everything within their power to tug at your heart strings so that you’ll part with that cup of coins you have in your center console.

Some can be found on the same corner, day after day, at the exact same time—kind of like…a job, and a fair amount of the time, it’s a young able bodied person who could work just as hard as you do if they wanted to. If you’re cynical to this practice, like I am, seeing them probably evokes a bit of anger or annoyance in you.

But there are also those of us who can never tell a panhandler, “No”. Sometimes panhandlers are relentless in begging for money, and when you feel sorry for them, you just cave in and pay ‘em. Even when you know they’ll likely use...

Protecting Your Entrepreneurial Energy From Negative People

Starting a business can be stressful and emotionally taxing. One minute you’re on cloud 9 because you’ve accomplished some difficult task that you didn’t think you’d ever get done, the next minute you’re feeling afraid and unsure of yourself and your future. Add to that, the physical demands that your business places on you, and you could easily have a recipe for mindset disaster.

Your mindset is as important to your success as your business plan, so you must be diligent about staying mentally healthy and protecting your energy from negativity—whether it be from strangers or people you love.

That means protecting your energy from negative coworkers, family, friends, boyfriends, husbands, girlfriends and wives—throw the kids in there too, if they’re negative!

For instance, you may have friends or family who love to call and unload all of their problems on you, leaving you stressed out and emotionally drained. Or those who...
