5 Ways Music Can Motivate You In Business

Music is a huge part of our daily lives. We wake up to music, drive to music, work out to music, fall in love to music, party to music, worship to music and so, so much more.

Music evokes emotion like no other art form. It can make you laugh and make you cry. It creates memories that last forever and triggers nostalgia that can make something that happened a decade ago feel like it happened yesterday.

When you’re feeling down, dancing to your favorite upbeat track or singing a ballad at the top of your lungs can make you feel like a brand new person. The effect that music has on our mood can be used to empower us when we need motivation the most. As a business owner, that’s often.

As I’ve discussed in previous episodes of my podcast, Master Your Mission, it takes a lot of conscious effort to keep your mind in the game and choose positivity over negativity. Check out the 10 Ways to Avoid Negativity Creep and Choose Positivity Instead episode of my podcast for more on that.

As an entrepreneur, it’s super important that your mindset is always on point. Music should be just one of the tools in your arsenal of tools that you use to control your thoughts.

Here’s how you can use music to boost your entrepreneurial spirits and stay motivated:

1. When you’re feeling low energy, use music as a natural adrenaline booster.

You’re working hard af to build the business of your dreams. Late nights and early mornings can do a number on your energy levels. Start your mornings with a boost of extra energy by playing upbeat music you love.

When you’ve had your third coffee and you’re still struggling to keep your eyes open, throw on some music that gets you pumped up and full of energy.

2. When you need to be inspired, play songs that make you dream big.

When your business requires you to be creative and think outside the box — which is probably all the time — being stuck in a funk and uninspired is unacceptable for your bottom line. Play music that helps you escape reality for the moment and dream unrestricted.

3. When you’re feeling sad, play songs that make you feel happy and upbeat.

Being a business owner is not a fail safe career choice. You’re going to have ups and downs and experience losses. When something isn’t working out as you had planned and your mood is in the tanks, crank up the volume on songs that make you happy and upbeat.

Take a dance break in the middle of the day to keep your spirits going, or sing out loud until your face hurts. You’ll feel much better after you do.

4. When you need to boss up, play music that makes you feel empowered and strong.

Everyone needs a hype man! But when you’re heading into a big meeting or sales pitch, your homeboy or homegirl might not be readily available. What’s the next best thing? Music that makes you feel empowered and strong.

My nieces love “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys. That may not be your go-to empowerment song, but find something communicates the message that you can do anything!

5. When you accomplish something major for your business, use music to celebrate.

That sales call went exactly as planned, and you landed that big client you’ve been dreaming of or you had an epic sales day! Celebrate your wins by playing celebratory music. Remind yourself of how great you are and that your talents are unique to you.

Music is not just noise or meaningless entertainment. Music has such an impact on our lives that when we hear certain songs, we can remember where we were the first time we heard it. We feel deeply connected to songs and the artists who sing them, and our brains remember the words to songs with astonishingly little effort.

Use music to help you stay in control of your mood and to motivate you as you navigate these fierce waters of entrepreneurship.
