Should You Start a Podcast for Your Business? Hell Yes!

The short answer is, it yes!

In case you’ve been living under a rock, or you somehow accidentally stumbled across this article, you should first know what a podcast is.

Oberlo, defines a podcast as a recording of audio discussion on a specific topic, like business or travel, that can be listened to. They’re often found on audio streaming platforms like iTunes and Spotify, but they are sometimes hosted on websites.

Podcasts are becoming increasing popular, as the number of people who listen to podcasts grows year over year. In fact, 51% of the US population has listened to a podcast at least once.

It’s really no wonder that podcasts are becoming more popular. As people continue to spend more and more time online, they look for convenient forms of entertainment that fit within their busy lifestyles. Podcasts fit that bill. Most people listen to podcasts right from their smartphones.

And there’s a podcast for every subject under the sun. According to musicoomph.com, there are currently more than 700,000 active podcasts and more than 29,000,000 podcast episodes.

That means there’s no shortage of variety! Think of any topic and there’s probably a podcast on it. Want to listen to a podcast about travel? You got it. Want to listen to a podcast about fashion? Of course there’s one or hundreds. Any and everything is covered in the podcasting Universe, so there’s something for everyone.

Podcasts come in all shapes and sizes. Episodes can be as short as a few minutes in length or as long as several hours. There are really no rules when it comes to podcasting.

Listeners tend to be more affluent and educated than the general population, and people who listen to podcasts are loyal. They are extremely active on social media and are willing to follow brands they love there.

Starting a podcast is a great idea for entrepreneurs who want to expand their reach and promote their business. It’s a low cost way to grow a committed audience who wants to hear what you have to say directly from you. And hosting a podcast is a great way to show off your knowledge and experience and to establish yourself as an expert in your field.

When I encourage people to start their own podcast, most of the time, people are intimidated by the idea of coming up with content for their podcast. They are also overwhelmed by the thought of recording an episode every day, like I do on my podcast, Master Your Mission

Your podcast is your podcast, meaning you can do whatever you want on it. You can literally talk about anything, as frequently or infrequently as you’d like. You don’t have to have a daily podcast like I do. You could release an episode once a week or a few times a month if you want to. You’re the boss. You really have total control over your own show.

Just consider why you are starting your podcast and what you hope to get from it. Then design your podcast around the answers to those questions.

And understand that it’s very easy to start your podcast with little (or no) equipment and without spending much money. I started mine with $0, my laptop, and the mic from my Beats headphones. I used that for a few episodes just to get started, then bought a $20 mic on Amazon.

I’ve said it before here, but I’m really happy that I started my podcast. It’s given me a voice that I’ve been able to strengthen more and more as time goes on, and it has allowed me to be able to speak directly to my audience. I know that it has made me a better entrepreneur and it has helped me grow my business in ways that I couldn’t have without it.

So I encourage you to start a podcast for your business if that’s something that you want to do. If you need help, I offer an online course that shows you exactly how to start one step by step.
