When You Think You Aren't Going to Make It, Take One More Step

Have you ever felt like your life was as bad as it could possibly be? Like nothing was going the way you wanted it to go and there’s no way you could ever recover from the blows life was dealing you?

There’s a saying, “When it rains it pours”. When things go wrong — one after another, after another — it can certainly feel like that saying is true. You can convince yourself that the Universe has it out for you or that things won’t ever get better. Your problems overwhelm you and trouble seems hard to escape.

I’ve been there before. Honestly, I’ve been there a few times in my life. Everything around you crumbles and negativity takes over your thoughts. It feels like no matter what you do, you can’t fix your situation and you can’t see your way out.

When you’re in that state of mind, it’s hard to stay motivated. Your dreams as an entrepreneur take a back seat to how you feel, and you end up going through the motions instead of doing the work. You’re suffering, so your dreams suffer too.

I’ve learned that those periods are when the Universe teaches its best lessons. If life had a Masterclass, it would be taught when you’re at rock bottom. Everything else you learn in life is just a lesson or a quiz. The real work, the real test, the most important lessons you’ll learn about life and about yourself are taught in those dark times.

What’s the lesson?

Think about the last really tough time you went through. What did you learn about yourself? If you’re going through a tough time right now, it may be hard to immediately pull a lesson from it, but it may be beneficial to try.

Did you make a mistake that you’ll never make again? Did you learn to do more of what makes you happy? Did you learn to love harder or trust your intuition more? Sometimes the lessons in your struggle aren’t very easily identifiable, but often, the more time passes, the more clear those lessons become.

Don’t give up. Your biggest wins are yet to come.

Whatever you do, don’t give up on your dreams. It’s inevitable that we’ll all experience low points in our lives. If you’re going through hard times now, remember that what goes down must come back up. The pendulum will always swing back your way, because just like good times don’t last forever, neither do the bad times.

Every roadblock you face, continue to take just one more step. You’ll come out on the other end of your problems with an invaluable lesson learned — stronger and more motivated than you ever were before. Continue to fight for your dreams, and remember that the hardest rains produce the most beautiful rainbows.
