5 Benefits of Having a Life Coach

I’m a Life Coach, and I’ll be the first to admit that most people aren’t real clear about what a Life Coach is. Most of my friends think of Iyanla Vanzant when they think of a Life Coach, and while she’s a great representation of Life Coaches, I usually have to explain that there are different types of Life Coaches out there.

According to Google Dictionary, a Life Coach is a person who counsels and encourages clients on matters having to do with careers or personal challenges. A Life Coach is professionally trained to help you maximize your potential in life or business and reach a desired outcome.

Life Coaches usually specialize in a certain niche. For instance, a divorced mother who wants to get back out into the dating pool might hire a Life Coach who specializes in helping women like her build up their confidence and date more.

A Life Coach is different from a Therapist in that therapists usually help you resolve issues from your past in order to better your life, whereas Life Coaches help you define a path and implement a plan, to better your life, that focuses more on the present and the future. A Life Coach is not a Therapist and is usually not trained in therapeutic modalities that are meant to deal with mental health issues and emotional trauma.

My personal opinion is that everyone who wants to live life to their fullest potential should have both a Life Coach and a Therapist. I’ll save that conversation for another article.

For this article, I want to share with you 5 benefits of having a Life Coach.

A Life Coach can help you get clarity.

It may be surprising, but most people who aren’t happy with where they currently are in life, know what doesn’t make them happy but aren’t very sure about what does make them happy. In other words, they don’t know what they want to be doing in life or what their goals are. A Life Coach can help you figure this out so that you are crystal clear about what you want. Once you’ve established some clarity about what it is that you want out of life, it becomes much easier to actually pursue it.

A Life Coach helps you stay accountable.

Owning your shit is the best thing you can do to improve your life. The act of taking responsibility for your actions moves you from being a victim of the circumstances of life to being in control of your own destiny. It’s a powerful position that a Life Coach can help you get to. A Life Coach can be the best version of an accountability partner that you can find, and having this type of accountability partner makes your likelihood of succeeding a whopping 95%.

A Life Coach helps you define a plan to accomplish your goals.

Once you’ve gotten clarity, you need a plan to implement in order to accomplish your goals. A Life Coach can help you define your plan. What are the first steps you need to take in order to be successful at your goals? If you decide to go left instead of going right, what’s waiting for you down the road? A Life Coach will help you think through your decisions and map out the actions you need to take to have the best chance of success.

A Life Coach can help you find your purpose.

Purpose is something we all need in life. It gives us a reason, bigger than ourselves, to keep going and having purpose helps us to live more fulfilling, happy lives. Without purpose, most people feel like they are just aimlessly wandering through life or like a very important piece of their identity is missing. A Life Coach can help you figure out what that piece is and how to go about incorporating your purpose into your life so that you have a more meaningful, peaceful existence.

A Life Coach can help you focus.

How many times have you established a goal for yourself and then a few days, weeks, or months into working toward that goal, you lose focus and either get sidetracked or forget about the goal altogether? A Life Coach can help you find your focus and stay focused until you accomplish whatever goal it is that you set out to accomplish. When you have the clarity, accountability, plan of action, and purpose that a Life Coach gives you, staying focused on your goals becomes much easier.

Finding and working with a Life Coach is a great decision for anyone who wants to harness their maximum potential and live the best life they can possibly live. A Life Coach will help you do the work you need to do to create a better life today and in the future.
