To help you come up with ideas for your business, I created this list of ten online businesses you can start today:
Freelance
Start an online freelance business. You can freelance doing just about anything. Freelancing just means that you sell your talents in the form of services. Your customers could be other businesses or private individuals. Some examples of businesses you can start as a freelancer are writing, editing, graphic design, logo design, and anything else you can think of. Great sites to use to list your services are Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer.
Web Developer
Learn how to code. There are a ton of free resources that teach you how to code online, and you can work through the courses at your own pace. Starting a coding business would allow you to work from anywhere in the world. All you would need is an internet connection and a laptop.
Some great resources to learn coding are:
Codecademy
freeCodeCamp
Bento.io
Set Up an eCommerce Store
eCommerce refers to commercial transactions that take place on the internet. When you shop online that’s eCommerce. According to Shopify, global eCommerce retail sales are expected to reach $27 trillion by 2020.
You could start a dropshipping business, buy products from a wholesaler or manufacturer and sell them on your site, make something and sell it on your site, start a t-shirt line or anything you can imagine.
Start a Virtual Consulting Business
A consultant is someone who provides expert advice. Think of what you’re an expert at. What do you have a degree or training in? What have you accomplished in life that businesses or people would hire you to advise them through? Decide what you’ll do as a consultant and network to get your name out there every chance you get. Create professional social media profiles, and tell everyone you know what you do.
Your Current Job Online
If possible, take whatever you currently do to the online world.
For instance, if you’re a doctor, you may be able to see patients online. Heydoctor.co and Amwell are examples of telehealth companies that offer virtual visits for their patients.
Teach a Course
Teach people something you are an expert at doing. Build a following by blogging and creating free content. Use a website to deliver your course content. Put your course on Udemy, Teachable, or another online teaching platform.
Sell Your Stuff
Sell gently used clothes, shoes, jewelry, electronics or anything else on sites like eBay and Poshmark. You can even go out and buy new or second hand items that are in good condition and resell them.
Virtual Assistant
Assist business owners, private individuals, or even corporations with day to day tasks. Decide what services you’ll offer, then set up a website so that potential clients can contact you and hire you.
Teach a Language
Start a business teaching English, Spanish, or any other language. Set up a website and start letting everyone know about your business. You can use Zoom web meetings or Skype to teach your students.
Become a Digital Marketer
Start a business creating and running online marketing campaigns for other businesses. If you’re great at social media, this may be the perfect business for you. Learn the ins and outs of the business, then start approaching business owners to pitch them your service.
There you have it. That was ten ideas for online businesses that you can start right away. Whichever idea you choose to pursue for your business, make sure it’s something you love and have fun in the process.
