The Airport Dream

Uncategorized Mar 08, 2019

Let me tell you about a crazy dream I had last night.

I was in a foreign country, headed to the airport to catch my departure flight, right? As the car I was in pulled up to the airport, I noticed all these signs on the exterior of the airport that said "ABSOLUTELY NO RUNNING ALLOWED". I thought it was strange, but I kept it moving.

So the next thing I knew (bear with me, it was a dream) I was sitting at the gate waiting to board the plane. Once the gate agents gave all the waiting passengers the go ahead to start lining up to board, I decided to go to the restroom one last time before getting on the plane.

I went to the restroom and as I was walking out of the restroom, realize I'm now about to miss my flight and I'm on the other side of the airport. I knew I couldn't miss my flight because if I did, I'd be stuck and would have no way of getting to where I was going.

So I started running - except my feet wouldn't move. They dragged the floor as if my shoes weighed 100 pounds each. I tried and tried to run, but no matter how hard I tried to lift my feet and take off, I couldn't.

So I bear crawled. I was in this airport, far from my gate, in a panic, on all fours, literally clawing my way to the gate. I was giving every ounce of strength I had to get to this gate, but I still couldn't move my feet.

At this point, I had tried everything to get to the gate as fast as I could and my feet still felt like they were being sucked to the ground by something much stronger than me. Then I remembered the signs on the outside of the airport. You know, the "ABSOLUTELY NO RUNNING ALLOWED" signs. Apparently, the airport had a futuristic floor that didn't allow you to run (I know, I know but it was a dream).

So in a last ditch effort to get to my gate and make my flight, I stood up and began to walk. My feet didn't drag. I didn't feel stuck. I just walked at a steady pace, and as long as I kept that steady pace, I got closer and closer to the gate.

And guess what?

I made my flight! ðŸ™Œ Then my alarm went off and woke me up.

What's crazy is that when I woke up, I was out of breath as if I had been bear crawling in my sleep. ðŸ˜‚

I immediately drew a lesson from that dream. Sometimes, walking at a steady pace gets you further, faster than running and you have to be okay with making slow progress over no progress.

Success is not a final destination, nor is it a race. It's a journey that requires the ability to adjust based on what the signs are telling you!

So I'll be over here, walking slow and steady until I get to my gate.
