Mindset Warfare: The Entrepreneur's Battlefield

I talk about protecting your energy and choosing positivity, as an entrepreneur, because the struggle of starting and running a business can be mental warfare. When things aren’t going your way or when things aren’t moving as fast as you would like them to, it can be hard to stay motivated.

Limiting beliefs attack at the worst possible time, causing self doubt, loss of focus, and a lack of desire. You can end up letting your mind go down a negativity wormhole and before you know it, you’re binge watching Game of Thrones on the couch and haven’t taken action in days. This is where dreams go to die.

If the #1 reason businesses fail is due to the lack of capital, then the #2 reason has to be due to the lack of the right mindset. It’s of supreme importance that you’re mentally prepared to get through the times that you will most certainly want to quit.

If you’ve started businesses and failed in the past, this message...

If the Cabin Loses Pressure, Put Your Own Mask on Before Helping Others

If you’ve ever been on a plane, you’ve heard the safety speech.

Buckle your seat belts, stow your carry-ons, let your seat backs and tray tables up on take off and landing, blow into the red tube to inflate the life vest, there’s a flotation device under the seat, 2 exits in the front, 2 in the middle and 2 in the back, and if there’s a drop in cabin pressure, an oxygen mask will drop—place it over you nose and mouth, adjust the straps and always put on your own oxygen mask before you help other people.

Always put on your own oxygen mask before you help others. Why would you want to do that? It’s counter intuitive, especially when we’re trying to protect someone we love from harm—like small children or the elderly. But think about it. If you don’t put on your mask first, you could potentially lose consciousness, and if you lose consciousness, you’ll be no help to anyone and that person you want so badly...

How to Not Piss Off Angry Customers

Today I was out running errands and worked up a pretty good appetite. I decided to stop at a restaurant that I had never been to but had been wanting to try for quite some time. I knew I wanted to order my food to go, so I went to the area of the restaurant that was clearly marked for to-go orders and stood in line behind two other people.

The restaurant was busy, but to my delight, there were two employees at the counter taking orders and ringing people up, so the short line was moving pretty quickly. Once they finished taking the order of the man directly ahead of me, I proceeded forward to place my order, but as I did, both employees walked away to do other things—without even acknowledging my presence. As I stood there, annoyed at this point, I watched at least 6 more employees walk by me without speaking, looking at me, or asking to take my order. Not good.

Now, I’ve had things like this happen before in situations where no one else in the restaurant...

Zombies During the Week But Weekends on Fleek

In honor of Friday, let’s talk about what I call weekday zombies. Weekday zombies walk around in a trance, dragging their feet with their eyes rolled in the backs of their heads Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and then on Friday, they come alive again.

These are people who live for the weekend. They turn off and become zombies during the week, most often because they dislike their jobs or have no sense of fulfillment in their careers. On Friday, they wake up excited to live life to the fullest, only to die again late Sunday night or Monday morning.

If you aren’t someone who lives for the weekend, you certainly know people who do. It’s a very common issue. People spend more time at work than anywhere else and most never even try to build a career that grants them the lifestyle they want. So they end up hating Mondays, dreading Tuesdays, barely getting through Wednesdays, tolerating Thursdays, and elated once Friday rolls around.

Are You Allowing Other People to Drive Your Life?

Imagine this. You’ve worked really, really hard for years knocking on doors, making phone calls, and building your business from the ground up. You’ve made sacrifice after sacrifice, poured your heart and soul into your business, and literally shed blood, sweat, and tears to get to where you are today. Now you are finally reaping the rewards of your hard work.

Your dream, since childhood, has always been to buy a one-of-a-kind Lamborghini and you’re finally able to do so. It gets delivered to you with the utmost care and you can immediately picture yourself driving your beautiful, irreplaceable car into the sunset later that day. You’ve already vividly imagined your fingers gripping the steering wheel, the hum of the engine, and what the wind hitting your face on your first drive would feel like. This is the moment you’ve dreamed of since you were a child—the moment you get to drive YOUR dream car.

As you stand in your...

How to Kill Your Limiting Beliefs & Accomplish Your Entrepreneurial Goals

In the podcast episode I recorded yesterday, Dream Big Like You Did As a Child, I discussed how important it is for us to dispel limiting beliefs (beliefs that hold us back from doing the things we dream of doing) so that we can dream unrestricted—the way we did as children—and achieve our wildest entrepreneurial dreams.

I told you about a male friend of mine who wanted to be a nurse, but didn’t pursue a career in nursing, out of high school, because of what his father thought of the profession. After his father passed away, he went back to school and became a nurse, but his father had imposed a limiting belief on him that could have kept him from ever fulfilling what he knew was his purpose.

At the end of yesterday’s podcast episode, I asked you to make a list of the limiting beliefs that have held you back from owning the business you’ve always wanted. If you haven’t already done so, take a minute to do that. From here,...

Dream Big Like You Did As a Child

Do you remember how bold your imagination was a child? If you were anything like me, you could spend hours dreaming up a game to play with your friends or imagining what the world was like beyond what you’d seen with your tiny little eyes.

A child’s imagination is completely untethered from doubt and limitation because children haven’t learned yet to be skeptics. The universe is literally a child’s mental playground.

Do you remember what you dreamed of as a child? Do you recall how you pictured what life would be like as an adult? Is it as you imagined it? Is your career what you dreamed it would be? Your answer to that last question is probably no, but why is that?

You may have changed your mind about what you wanted to do as you got older. Maybe something happened in your life that caused you to take a different route. It’s possible that, as you got older, you settled for things in your life that were less than what you dreamed...

How to Give Zero F*cks & Be a Savage About Your Business

Have you ever heard the expression, “Closed mouths don’t get fed”? Well they don’t. And when you’re not telling people about your business, it’s likely that you aren’t making any money.

Being an outspoken business owner can be a challenge for many people. We sometimes feel like telling people about our business will come off as pushy, or we don’t want to bug people or be annoying by talking about our business too much. Other times, we are unsure of our ability—or just flat out afraid of being criticized and rejected.

But speaking up about your business is extremely important. It could be the difference between you succeeding and failing in business. So how does one get rid of that timidity that plagues so many business owners and become a savage who gives zero fucks when it comes to telling people about their business? Here’s how…

Don’t apologize for your talents.

Stand firmly in your...

If You Want to Be Successful, Stop Working

In celebration of the weekend, I’m going to say something that I probably don’t say enough. Stop working. No, really stop working. You need to relax, take time off, and do something fun that’s unrelated to your business. It’s essential to your success.

As entrepreneurs, we work longer hours, stress more, and regularly push ourselves outside of the comfort zones everyone else is afraid to leave. Running a business is physically taxing and basically akin to mental gymnastics.

We are driven to be better than average, to provide better for our families, and to live up to the high expectations we’ve placed on ourselves. As a result, our quest for success can easily make us forget to take time off to do—brace yourself—nothing.

Here’s why it’s important to take time off…

To Avoid Burnout

I’ve learned that if there isn’t a healthy balance of work and play, you will find yourself unmotivated and...

No One is Coming to Save You

Have you ever known someone who’s extremely smart and so talented that they can literally do anything—so much so that you secretly kinda hate them sometimes because they’re just so damn good at everything they do—but they seem to be letting all that talent go to waste? They desperately want to but aren’t pursuing their passions and sharing their gifts, because they seem to be waiting on someone to do it for them or for something great to fall in their lap. They’re miserable where they are but they’re stuck and won’t make a move.

I know people like this. Hell, this used to be me. Then one day I realized that no one and nothing was coming to save me. No religious belief, no long lost rich uncle (turns out, I don’t even have one), no talent agent—no one.

Maybe that person you know is you. Let’s get really honest right now, because being brutally honest is really the only way out of your misery. What are you...
