You Are What You Eat - Mentally

Do you remember the 2004 documentary Super Size Me? To refresh your memory, an independent filmmaker by the name of Morgan Spurlock made a movie documenting his life as he ate McDonald’s three times a day for 30 days.

If you just gagged, trust me, I understand why.

For that entire 30 day period, he ate only McDonald’s, and by the end of that 30 days, he had eaten everything on the menu at least once. I can’t help but to wonder if that includes the McRib—which really grosses me out, but I digress.

So by the end of the documentary, Spurlock had gained 24 lbs—remember this is over the course of only 30 days—and he had given himself high cholesterol, sexual dysfunction, mood swings, and he had accumulated fat on his liver.

He consumed really unhealthy food and quickly became unhealthy physically. He had to put in some serious work and dedication to correct the damage that he had done to his body.

It took him a year and two months,...

A Fun House Mirror Belongs in a Fun House

What if all your life, from the time you were born, the only mirror you were ever given to look at yourself was a fun house mirror?

Every time you saw your reflection, you’d see a distorted image of you staring back. You’d go through life believing that the image you saw in that mirror was how other people also saw you.

And even though you could look down at your body and touch your face, you still believed that other people saw you the way you saw yourself. Can you imagine how much that would affect your confidence, your interactions with other people, and the way you moved around the world?

How do you see yourself? When you see your reflection in the mirror, do you see the same person you envision in your mind?

What about the reflection you get of yourself from those around you? Do you think that reflection is accurate? Do people see you the way you see yourself?

Most of the time, the way we see ourselves is not how others see us. We know our own deepest,...

The Guy Who Built 3 Houses That No One Wanted

I’m one of those people who can always come up with a business idea. It’s a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because, no matter what, I always know that if one thing doesn’t work for me, I’ll eventually think of something else. It’s a curse because that gift can make me easily distracted by every shiny object that catches my eye.

When you’re in the beginning stages of choosing an idea to pursue for a business, but you have multiple ideas, it can be hard to choose just one idea to focus on. You want so badly to pick the best idea that will turn out to be wildly successful, so it’s tempting to chase them all.

I don’t think that’s a very good plan. Let me tell you about the guy who built 3 houses that no one wanted to illustrate why.

There was a guy who decided to build a house by himself for the first time. He wanted to literally build the house with his own two hands and no contractors. His plan was build...

I Recorded Episode 100 of My Podcast - Issa Celebration!

If you can hear the sound of my voice (or read this article), yesterday I recorded episode 100 of my podcast, Master Your Mission! ONE ZERO ZEROOOOO! I actually wore a tux as I wrote this article and recorded my episode. It’s a momentous occasion!

First I want to thank my momma and my daddy for making a real G! Thank you Pookie and Day Day for being the realest, and thank you to everyone who listens to this podcast. From the bottom of my heart, I truly appreciate you coming back to listen to my podcast every day to hear what I have to say, because I know that you could be somewhere else doing something else with your time.

If you’re a close personal friend of mine or if you happen to have been listening to my podcast from day 1, then you know that this is a huge milestone for me. Tres Amigos, Trinity Comedy, Doc, I think I told you all about this wild idea and y’all probably thought, “Aw shit. Here he goes!” But thank you for not...

You're Never Too Smart to Learn Something New

Have you ever met someone who acts like they know everything under the sun? You know, those people you really can’t tell anything without them getting offended because they already know way more than you ever will. There are those people in the world who are never open to learning more, because they think they already know it all.

We call them know-it-alls, fancy pants, and maybe sometimes assholes. Don’t be those people.

I can’t think of one instance in which a person could know so much about a subject that they could never learn something new about that subject. It’s even possible for the most expert of experts to learn something from a novice.

Many successful people claim that they never stop learning. Learning means that you’re growing and progressing from where you are to a place of better understanding.

In your business, you may find it hard to find time to fit learning something new into your schedule, but it’s actually a lot...

Do You Even Mind Lift Bro?

No, I’m not talking about some supernatural power of picking things up with your mind and throwing them across the room.

All my gym rats out there may have previously heard the expression, “Do you even lift bro?” Whether you’re a gym rat or not, you probably understand the importance of exercising and eating healthy foods.

Exercising can help you build muscle and replace fat, keep healthy joints, build strength and efficiency in cardiopulmonary function and so much more. Keeping your body in tip top shape so that it performs at a high level means that you eat right, exercise, and even go to the doctor for regular checkups.

When we talk about exercising and taking care of our bodies though, we often forget about the health of one of the most important parts of our bodies—our minds.

When it comes to your mind, do you even lift bro? Are you doing the things you should be doing to care for your mind like you would care for...

Get Out of Your Feelings & Get Into the Bag

When we’re planning our next big move, we often think too much about who will like our business idea or whatever it is we want to do in life. We wonder whether people will laugh at us, talk about us, think our ideas are stupid, and on and on. Sometimes we even go so far as to base the decision to actually take action or do nothing on our assumption of what people will say.

We all think about things like this, but if you ever want to accomplish anything in life, you have to move forward—in spite of those thoughts. There will be people who feel you and people who don’t. You have to do what you dream of doing anyway.

Consider the fact that there are people who genuinely don’t like Beyonce’s music. You may wonder how that’s possible, but those people actually exist. Them not liking her music doesn’t make them haters because—remember those things called opinions? Everyone’s got one and everyone is entitled to theirs. ...

When You Get Too Comfortable, Get Scared

They say that complacency is the root of mediocrity.

There are plenty of reasons we can become complacent. It could be that we are afraid to push ourselves beyond the limits of our comfort zones, or that we have allowed life to get in the way of taking risks, or it could be that we have found ourselves in a happy place that we don’t want to disturb.

In the case of happiness, I can’t argue with that. Happiness and peace are what we all seek in life, and if you’ve found that and gotten comfortable, that’s great. Complacency in the midst of unhappiness though is another story.

Allowing yourself to get comfortable with feelings of discomfort and displeasure in life are exactly the opposite of what you should be doing if you want to live your best life. Complacency, in these situations, should frighten you.

When you find yourself getting complacent and feeling like you are not functioning at your highest frequency, it’s important that...

The Golden Rule of Entrepreneurship

When you’re a customer, how do you treat the people who work in and own the businesses you frequent? Let’s say you go into a local restaurant and they totally screw up your order. How do you handle it? Is your first reaction to yell, scream and get irate? Or are you patient, understanding and willing to give the business the opportunity to fix it?

What about the flip side? In your business, do you provide the type of excellent customer service that you expect to get from other businesses when you’re the customer?

Be honest.

I’ve seen people, who are entrepreneurs themselves, act a plum fool with other business owners over the smallest things. I’ve seen them be rude and condescending to the the employees of another establishment over things that could be fixed really easily.

Alternatively, I’ve seen entrepreneurs, who expect exceptional service everywhere they go, be short and unwilling to bend when their customers aren’t...

The Cost of Keeping a Job You Hate

Would you rather be an entrepreneur, doing what you love but not making much money or would you rather work for someone doing something you hate but making a lot of money?

I asked this question on Instagram today.

Pretty much everyone who responded said that they would rather be an entrepreneur. The money doesn’t really matter when it comes to peace and the freedom of being your own boss.

So what are people to do when they want to be entrepreneurs but happen to really hate what they do for a living? First of all, I can definitely relate to feeling like this. Working a job you hate can cause you to feel depressed, stressed, and a shitty mess—no matter how much it pays.

Let’s look at how that job you hate is really affecting your life, and again, I have first hand experience with this topic.

You’re probably not giving the job your all. You probably go to work and half ass it just enough to keep getting a paycheck. Your password to everything at...
