Welcome to Winning Season!

We’re almost officially halfway through the year, which means that it’s winning season! And if you’ve been putting in the work to smash your goals, congratulations! You should really be proud of yourself for sticking to the commitment of accomplishing the things you wanted to accomplish in 2019.

Did you know that research has found that only 8% of people actually fulfill the goals they set at the beginning of the year? Now, maybe you didn’t start your business at the beginning of the year, but that doesn’t matter. You’ve still lived the same amount of days, this year, as those who did start their businesses on January 1st and—just like them—you’ve probably had all types of things happen in your life that could have taken you out of the game, but you’re still in it.

Trust me, I know that it can get really difficult at times. Just this morning, I had a mini-meltdown and had to talk myself back into a positive...

You Could Always Sell Your Soul for Success

Have you ever wanted something really badly? My guess is that your answer is “yes”. Have you ever done something really shitty in order to get something you wanted really badly? Hopefully, your answer to that is “no”.

Having a burning desire to achieve something great can drive people to unimaginable extremes. Some people sacrifice convenience and do things like sell their cars to start the business of their dreams. Some people sacrifice time and do things like work 3 jobs to fund their dreams of becoming a business mogul. Some people take on insurmountable debt to fund their passion. And there are those who end up compromising their integrity to get ahead.

It could start as small as cutting corners on your product or service and hoping that your customers don’t notice. It could be overcharging someone $5 here and there or charging someone for something that you can’t deliver and then refusing to make the situation right.

Integrity...

Next Time, Stick to The Script

There was a girl in college who was a Theater major. She had a huge personality so it was befitting that she would study the art of acting, and everyone that knew her just knew that someday she would be a huge star.

She was extremely popular on campus—it seemed like she knew everybody, and no one ever had anything bad to say about her. She seemed to be a favorite among students and faculty at school.

So every year at this school, there was this big production of a different play. This particular year, the girl wanted to try out for the lead role. She told any and everyone who would listen that the lead role would be hers that year.

Every day, like clockwork, she could be seen on the yard, putting on a show to whoever happened to be with her at the moment. Any time someone struck up a conversation with her, it was as if she couldn’t talk about anything else but that play and how much she was committed to landing that role.

So like I said, this...

Don't Allow Love Lost to Keep You From Your Dreams

Years ago, I had a friend that I would have described then as a player. He was always looking for women to talk to, hang out with, and date. He really seemed to want to spend every waking moment of his time with women.

In my less mature years, I thought it was pretty cool that he spent so much time chasing women. I can’t say I wanted to do the same thing—not every single minute of life—but I didn’t see anything wrong with how he lived. I had also never given his actions much thought beyond the surface, “guys doing what guys do”.

As years passed, we would talk when he was going through painful times in his life. There seemed to be a common denominator in those moments. His low points always seemed to be related to women leaving him and him being single.

I witnessed him in relationship after relationship, at low point after low point, and I eventually realized that I had been wrong all those years. My friend wasn’t a player at all. He...

I Bet Beyonce's Friends Listen to Her Shit Now

Starting your business is an exciting and difficult time all wrapped into a warm blanket of pins and needles. You’re happy one minute, frustrated the next, and sometimes you just don’t know how to feel.

Sometimes people have this fantastical view of what starting a business is like. They picture rubbing elbows with celebrities on mega yachts from day one. I think most business owners will tell you though, it’s a difficult road, but a road that’s definitely worth it.

When people have this misconception of what starting and running a business is like—especially in the beginning—there are a few tried and true complaints that you can expect those people to have. One of them is that their friends don’t support their business.

Since my audience is full of entrepreneurs, I see this complaint a lot. I’ll admit, I’ve even wondered myself about why certain friends are much less supportive than others. This isn’t...

What Do You Think About Yourself?

I want you to take a moment and finish each of the following statements with the first thought that comes to mind.

  1. I can…
  2. I have…
  3. I believe…
  4. I am…

Did you finish those statements with positive thoughts about yourself or negative thoughts about yourself?

In a perfect world, it would always be easy for us to affirm positive thoughts about ourselves, but sometimes we can end up in a mental space that causes our brains to be overrun by negativity. When we find ourselves there, it can be hard to see our way out.

Self doubt is something that we’ve all struggled with at some point in our lives, so if you’re currently struggling, you shouldn’t feel like you’re in this alone. It’s a human thing to go through, and you happen to be human.

Turning any negative thoughts you might have into positive ones takes deliberate decision making. Even when you’re feeling confident and good about yourself, you have to be fiercely...

There's a Lesson in Negative Experiences

I’ve had two life threatening experiences in my life that I would definitely categorize as negative experiences.

One happened when I was a teenager. It’s no secret that I can’t swim. I’ve talked about that a few times here, but when I was 14, I went to a water park on a school field trip.

My classmates and I had been at the park for hours and I had stayed in my safe zone at the shallow end of a wave pool pretty much all day. At some point, I let my two of my friends talk me into getting onto a two person tube so the three of us could go hang out at the deep end. *Face palm.*

The plan was that one friend would pull us out to the deep end as myself and the third person sat on the tube. I expressed my trepidation because of the fact that I couldn’t swim, and they assured me that we’d be safe on this tube, and if I fell in, they’d save me.

Everything in my soul told me don’t do it, but my friends convinced me to ignore my gut and...

Entrepreneur Bae - Dating an Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurs are usually very ambitious people. We have big dreams and lofty goals, and most of the time, anything that gets in the way of those goals gets nixed. We don’t have time to waste doing things that are meaningless or that don’t advance our interests.

So when it comes to being a single entrepreneur, it can be easy to find yourself in a sad state of singles purgatory. There, you’ll find it hard to make time to focus on your dating life, and when you do, it’s hard to connect with someone who is unambitious or who doesn’t understand your extreme ambition.

I’m single. I have been for quite some time now, and most of the time, dating takes a back seat to my goals. I have a habit of telling myself that once I reach my goals, I’ll be able to dedicate more time to dating.

Right now, my business is bae. I’m fully dedicated to it and I feel guilty when I spend too much time doing other things. For instance, when I go out for...

5 Ways to Instantly Boost Your Confidence as an Entrepreneur

Running a business is full of tasks that involve doing things that may be intimidating for some entrepreneurs. For instance, many business owners find interacting with people for business —talking to customers, suppliers, business partners, etc.—horribly intimidating. Things like hosting a podcast like I do, communicating on social media or even talking to people via email or telephone can give people such anxiety that they run from doing it.

No matter what business you are in, you’ll have to communicate with people in some form or another. You may have to talk to customers to make sales, handle customer service inquiries, talk to suppliers, talk to business partners, talk to employees, and so much more. Whether you’re a new entrepreneur or a seasoned one, this can be one of the most intimidating parts of doing business.

Many times, it’s intimidating because you have a hard time giving yourself credit for being an expert. You may feel...

Should You Go Into Business With Friends?

When you have a really good friend, you want to do everything together. You want to hang out, eat together, drink together, and sometimes even live together. You spend so much time and share so much of the same energy that you can basically finish each other’s thoughts.

If you happen to have that entrepreneurial spirit, you’ve probably dreamed out loud about your aspirations to your good friend, and they’ve probably dreamed out loud about theirs to you. You may spend countless hours bouncing ideas off of each other and planning out how you’ll spend your first Million in your future life.

If you both dream of starting a business, there may even be times that you talk about starting a business together, but is that a good idea? It depends.

There are so many layers to this question that there’s really no clear cut answer, so let’s look at a few of the things that you should consider before you decide to take the plunge plunge and basically...
