5 Reasons to Stop Procrastinating & Start Your Business Now

It’s August now, so that means that next week it will be Christmas and then the day after that it will be the first day of 2020. My God, where did the time go?

If you’re the type who sets New Year’s resolutions, you better start thinking about what ‘new you’ you want to be for the new year and creating a plan of how you’ll get there. I’m not a resolution maker, because—obviously—I like to change things when I notice that they need to be changed and I strive to accomplish new goals throughout the year. Thus, my 66 Days of Bold Action Challenge.

If starting a business is something you’ve been thinking about doing but haven’t done yet, I’m going to try to convince you right here, right now that you should start your business now rather than waiting.

So here are 5 reasons you should start your business now:

It’s never been easier to start a business.

With the ability to start a business or a side hustle on...

Sometimes Being an Entrepreneur Really Sucks

I’m just going to get to the point here. Sometimes being an entrepreneur really sucks. Anyone who owns a business, or who has owned a business, would probably agree.

It’s really hard and it fucks with your mind. Some days it seems like nothing goes right and everything you touch goes wrong. Or you get a customer who wants to yell at you and you just want to yell back. But you can’t.

There are times when the money is dry and you wonder why you ever wanted this entrepreneurship thing in the first place. Coming up with money to pay for the marketing campaign you launched that brought you 0 customers is always fun.

And don’t even get me started on having a business and a full time job. Especially when the full time job is also stressful. The combination of a bad day on the job and a bad day in your business can make you want to find somebody to punch in the face.

You really do have—or will have , if you’re starting your business—those days...

Rewind: $86,400 Per Day

I originally wrote this article back in March, and today, it was on my mind. So I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to revisit this hypothetical and remind you to really think about how you’re spending your time in life.

Imagine this. Everyday, you wake up with the potential to have $86,400 deposited into your bank account at the end of the day. That’s one dollar for every second of the day.

Here’s the catch. Throughout the day, money is either subtracted or added to the deposit amount based on your actions. For every second you spend doing productive things that move you closer to creating the life you want, $1 is added to the deposit amount. For every second you spend taking no action to pursue creating the life you want, $1 is deducted from the deposit amount.

How much money would be deposited into your account at the end of every day?

Every second we spend in life either adds value or costs us something valuable.

Doing things like spending...

Why Improving Yourself Improves Your Business

There’s no shortage of self-help information available to the public these days. From Life Coaches like me, to audio books, to podcasts like Master Your Mission, there’s something out there to help anybody improve any aspect of their life.

But does all this stuff really work? Can working with a Life Coach make you a better person? And does becoming a better person even help you in entrepreneurship?

The short answers are yes, yes and yes. How? Of course I’m going to tell you. Here are some of the ways that self improvement can help you as an entrepreneur.

Self improvement helps you take responsibility for your actions.

Taking responsibility for your actions helps you become a better entrepreneur because it makes you more of a go-getter. People who blame others for their circumstances in life tend to be procrastinators who never take action. Owning your shit is one of the first steps to shifting your mindset from the victim, whoa is me mentality to a take charge...

What If Money Won't Make You Happy?

Have you ever wanted something so bad that you convinced yourself that you wouldn’t be happy or complete until you got that thing? You’ve probably experienced that. I know I have.

I remember buying my first car. It was a blue 1996 Mercury Sable. I laugh thinking about it now, but I remember how happy and proud I was when I bought it.

Prior to that, I had been driving a 1984 Ford Escort Pony that started and ran when it felt up to it. That Escort—which is a horrible name for a car, by the way—had one of those seat belts that automatically choked you across the chest as soon as you closed the door. It was an ugly beige color and I had to keep a bottle of anti-freeze in the trunk just in case it ran hot.

I really wanted a new car. I was tired of driving that Ford and having it break down on me in the middle of busy streets. I even recall that car stopping on the freeway once and being really creeped out by this weird guy pulling up on me asking...

Freddy Krueger Might Not Be Real, But Fear Is

Fear can be kind of like a bad horror movie. You know, the ones where the lady is running from the killer, through the woods, only to trip and fall, or she jumps into a car, fumbles with the keys and then the car won’t start.

In horror movies like that the characters struggle through the story for two whole hours, fighting off the killer at every turn. Some of the characters don’t make it, but there’s always that one or two who do.

By the end of the movie, they’re bruised and battered and most certainly, traumatized by what they’ve been through. Then they have that one last fight to the death with the killer, and it’s the most intense yet.

They hit him over the head with a lamp, but he’s still coming for them. They stab him in the leg with a butcher knife, but he gets up and keeps coming. They push him over the third floor railing, and he may be weak now, but he’s still trying to kill them. Then they douse him with gasoline...

When You Lack Confidence as an Entrepreneur, Here's What You Should Do

In yesterday’s episode of my daily podcast, Master Your Mission, I talked about how the lack of confidence can affect you as an entrepreneur. It can manifest itself in different ways and keep you stuck with the mindset that you can’t win.

Just to recap, here are some of the ways the lack of confidence can hold you back:

  1. You never take action.
  2. You second guess everything you do.
  3. You’re unable to stay committed.
  4. You take things too personal.
  5. You can’t take feedback.
  6. You miss out on great opportunities.
  7. You can’t stay focused.

You can listen to that episode in full here.

If you struggle with anything on that list, there’s a good chance you just need to work on building your confidence. And don’t feel bad, because everyone’s confidence wavers at different points in life. We all find ourselves in those moments where we have to build up our confidence at one time or another.

So let’s talk about what you can do to counter the effects...

How the Lack of Confidence Affects You as an Entrepreneur

Confidence is important in life and in entrepreneurship. Most people have moments in life where they lack confidence and others moments where they overflow with confidence.

Things happen in life that affect how we feel about ourselves. Sometimes bad things happen in our lives that break us down and leave us feeling uncertain about our own self worth or our ability to do what’s hard and unknown. Other times, great things happen that reinforce the good thoughts we have about ourselves, making us certain that we can accomplish whatever we dream.

All of these thoughts play into how we perform as entrepreneurs. When things are great in your life and your confidence is through the roof, that can show in your business. Similarly, when things aren’t so great in your life or you just lack confidence, that shows up in your business too.

It’s important to be able to identify some of the ways that the lack of confidence can manifest itself so that you know how...

Why Failure Isn't Failure at All

I want to revisit a story I told a while back on my podcast, Master Your Mission. It’s about James Dyson, the founder and CEO of Dyson the vacuum cleaner company.

Dyson failed, repeatedly, to build the vacuum cleaner that he dreamed of building and putting on the market—his signature G-Force vacuum cleaner. In fact, he failed 5,126 times.

It was on the 5,127th time that he succeeded at building it. Even after he successfully created his prototype, he was rejected by every manufacturer and distributor in the UK, because they didn’t like his bagless design.

It took him 15 years and almost his entire savings to develop his innovative vacuum cleaner, which is the best selling vacuum cleaner in the US— eventually making him a billionaire. Dyson said that each of the 5,126 failures taught him something new that led to his eventual success.

Now, James Dyson was way more committed to his dream than most of us will ever be. I’d argue...
