5 Benefits of Having a Life Coach

I’m a Life Coach, and I’ll be the first to admit that most people aren’t real clear about what a Life Coach is. Most of my friends think of Iyanla Vanzant when they think of a Life Coach, and while she’s a great representation of Life Coaches, I usually have to explain that there are different types of Life Coaches out there.

According to Google Dictionary, a Life Coach is a person who counsels and encourages clients on matters having to do with careers or personal challenges. A Life Coach is professionally trained to help you maximize your potential in life or business and reach a desired outcome.

Life Coaches usually specialize in a certain niche. For instance, a divorced mother who wants to get back out into the dating pool might hire a Life Coach who specializes in helping women like her build up their confidence and date more.

A Life Coach is different from a Therapist in that therapists usually help you resolve issues from your past in order to...

Rewind: $86,400 Per Day

I originally wrote this article back in March, and today, it was on my mind. So I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to revisit this hypothetical and remind you to really think about how you’re spending your time in life.

Imagine this. Everyday, you wake up with the potential to have $86,400 deposited into your bank account at the end of the day. That’s one dollar for every second of the day.

Here’s the catch. Throughout the day, money is either subtracted or added to the deposit amount based on your actions. For every second you spend doing productive things that move you closer to creating the life you want, $1 is added to the deposit amount. For every second you spend taking no action to pursue creating the life you want, $1 is deducted from the deposit amount.

How much money would be deposited into your account at the end of every day?

Every second we spend in life either adds value or costs us something valuable.

Doing things like spending...

Why Improving Yourself Improves Your Business

There’s no shortage of self-help information available to the public these days. From Life Coaches like me, to audio books, to podcasts like Master Your Mission, there’s something out there to help anybody improve any aspect of their life.

But does all this stuff really work? Can working with a Life Coach make you a better person? And does becoming a better person even help you in entrepreneurship?

The short answers are yes, yes and yes. How? Of course I’m going to tell you. Here are some of the ways that self improvement can help you as an entrepreneur.

Self improvement helps you take responsibility for your actions.

Taking responsibility for your actions helps you become a better entrepreneur because it makes you more of a go-getter. People who blame others for their circumstances in life tend to be procrastinators who never take action. Owning your shit is one of the first steps to shifting your mindset from the victim, whoa is me mentality to a take charge...

You Are What You Believe

For years I wanted to lift weights and build a muscular physique, but it wasn’t until 2008—around the age of 30—that I tried. Since I was a kid I had been athletic, but I had also been skinny all my life. In 2008 I was still super skinny, and when I say super skinny, I mean Snoop Dogg in Baby Boy with that baggy wife beater on skinny.

In fact, I look back at pictures of myself around that time and I think I looked ridiculous because I was so freaking skinny. And I always thought that was just how I was built. I thought that I was just naturally skinny and there was really nothing I could do about it—it’s just who I was.

That year, 2008, I decided I would start lifting weights. It was my shot in the dark at finally getting bigger and having the muscular physique I always wanted. And to clarify, my sole purpose for working out at the time was to beef up and build muscle, not to go to the gym for my health (as crazy as that is).

I began to research...

Freddy Krueger Might Not Be Real, But Fear Is

Fear can be kind of like a bad horror movie. You know, the ones where the lady is running from the killer, through the woods, only to trip and fall, or she jumps into a car, fumbles with the keys and then the car won’t start.

In horror movies like that the characters struggle through the story for two whole hours, fighting off the killer at every turn. Some of the characters don’t make it, but there’s always that one or two who do.

By the end of the movie, they’re bruised and battered and most certainly, traumatized by what they’ve been through. Then they have that one last fight to the death with the killer, and it’s the most intense yet.

They hit him over the head with a lamp, but he’s still coming for them. They stab him in the leg with a butcher knife, but he gets up and keeps coming. They push him over the third floor railing, and he may be weak now, but he’s still trying to kill them. Then they douse him with gasoline...

Makeup Is to Your Face What Life is to Your Brain

Let’s talk about makeup for a second. Makeup is usually used to enhance a person’s looks. Even if you know nothing about makeup, you’ve probably seen enough of those trending beauty videos on social media, to know that some people are really great at highlighting certain features of their face and minimizing others—all with makeup.

Whether it’s for vanity, special fx, or any other reason, wearing makeup changes the way a person’s face appears in its natural state. That change could be a very subtle change or it could be one that’s extremely drastic.

Now, I don’t know very much about makeup—in fact, sometimes I can’t even tell when someone is wearing it—but I’m pretty sure I know one thing. Women who wear makeup usually wash it off their faces at the end of the day.

If they didn’t wash it off, and instead left it on, woke up the next day and added a new layer of makeup to what’s left...

When You Lack Confidence as an Entrepreneur, Here's What You Should Do

In yesterday’s episode of my daily podcast, Master Your Mission, I talked about how the lack of confidence can affect you as an entrepreneur. It can manifest itself in different ways and keep you stuck with the mindset that you can’t win.

Just to recap, here are some of the ways the lack of confidence can hold you back:

  1. You never take action.
  2. You second guess everything you do.
  3. You’re unable to stay committed.
  4. You take things too personal.
  5. You can’t take feedback.
  6. You miss out on great opportunities.
  7. You can’t stay focused.

You can listen to that episode in full here.

If you struggle with anything on that list, there’s a good chance you just need to work on building your confidence. And don’t feel bad, because everyone’s confidence wavers at different points in life. We all find ourselves in those moments where we have to build up our confidence at one time or another.

So let’s talk about what you can do to counter the effects...

How the Lack of Confidence Affects You as an Entrepreneur

Confidence is important in life and in entrepreneurship. Most people have moments in life where they lack confidence and others moments where they overflow with confidence.

Things happen in life that affect how we feel about ourselves. Sometimes bad things happen in our lives that break us down and leave us feeling uncertain about our own self worth or our ability to do what’s hard and unknown. Other times, great things happen that reinforce the good thoughts we have about ourselves, making us certain that we can accomplish whatever we dream.

All of these thoughts play into how we perform as entrepreneurs. When things are great in your life and your confidence is through the roof, that can show in your business. Similarly, when things aren’t so great in your life or you just lack confidence, that shows up in your business too.

It’s important to be able to identify some of the ways that the lack of confidence can manifest itself so that you know how...

TGIF (The Goal is Freedom)

I spend a lot of time thinking about what my ultimate goal in life is. What is all of this for? The early mornings and late nights I spend building my business, the energy I spend chasing whatever dream I have at the moment, the things I’ve sacrificed in the name of fulfillment—what is it ultimately for?

The one word that always comes to mind when I ask myself those questions is FREEDOM. I do what I do because what I ultimately want in life is freedom.

For me, freedom means that my mind, my body, and my soul are in alignment and at peace. It means that I am mentally and physically healthy and that I am able to treat that health as a priority without fear of ridicule or judgement—particularly my mental health.

Freedom means that I wake up every day single day, excited about what I do for a living, with a sense of fulfillment and purpose, knowing without a doubt that I am able to provide for the family that I’ll have someday. It means that I don’t have to...

The Butterfly Effect On Your Life

Have you ever heard of the butterfly effect? It’s usually referenced in relation to chaos theory, but it’s the phenomenon in which a small change in a complex system can have major effects on that system elsewhere down the line. In other words, changing a tiny element in a large process largely changes that process at a later point.

This phenomenon is based on the idea that small causes have large effects.

So if we think about the butterfly effect in terms of our lives, seemingly small decisions, meaningless encounters, and inconsequential choices aren’t small, meaningless or inconsequential at all. A decision as small as making a wrong turn can have a major impact on our lives somewhere down the line.

That is why it is so important for us to be conscious and aware of the decisions we make, no matter how small they seem to be. The thoughts we have, the words we speak, and the company we keep all matter and affect the outcomes we receive in the future.

As...
