Why Your #HotGirlSummer is So Necessary

Issa #HotGirlSummer, and I ain’t talking about the temperature! Megan Thee Stallion has the whole internet talking about having one. Even us guys are getting in on the action and claiming our own #HotBoySummer.

But what is it exactly? According to an interview Houston’s baddest did with The Root, #HotGirlSummer is “…about women and men being unapologetically them, just having a good-ass time, hyping up their friends, doing you”.

Sounds like a good time, right? I love anything that encourages you to be unapologetically you, unless your ass is toxic and you need to be apologetic, but let’s not go there right now. Instead, let’s assume you’re a light to the world. In that case, you need to be having a #HotGirlSummer, Fall, Winter, and Spring!

Here’s why having your #HotGirl or #HotBoy Summer is so necessary:

You put off your own needs for everyone else’s.

Women are notorious for this. Black women are notorious for this. You take care of everything — the family, work, your friends. It’s time for you to do you. Put you first and let it be known that you’re doing so. Anyone who truly cares about your well-being will understand and support that decision.

You need “me” time for self love.

Your own self love is an important component of your health. Take some time for rest and relaxation. Get reconnected with the things you love doing the most. Spend time with yourself and fall in love with you. Rebuild your self-esteem. Whatever it is that you need to do for you, make time to do it.

You should travel more.

Where is it that you’ve been wanting to visit but haven’t been yet? Paris? Africa? Vegas? Wherever it is, you should plan a trip. Traveling is inspiring and refreshing. Learning about and experiencing other cultures helps you expand your knowledge beyond your own back yard and set of personal experiences. Traveling provides a level of growth you can’t get in any other way.

Working too hard is not good for your mental.

You’re a bawse! You work damn hard for what you have, and you’re not afraid of a long day. Being a hard worker is a great quality, but you’ve got to know when to turn it off too. I know you’re trying to build a legacy, but if you burn yourself out, you won’t be build anything. Take time off and go twerk sumn.

It’s time to move on from the man (or woman) who hurt you.

It’s just time. What better way to move on from that ex boo thang that broke your heart — or that current boo thang that’s still breaking your heart — than by having a #HotGirlSummer? The best revenge is being a better you, so let that lame go, get back to being you, and turn up for the summer! Remind these people who tf you are!

Have your #HotGirlSummer, and let it mean whatever you want it to mean — just as long as you do you. If you want to go out and twerk to Lil Boosie all night, do it. If you want to finally start a new business, do it. If you want to heal from a broken heart, do it.

And Guys, don’t forget, we can have a #HotBoySummer, so this article was for us too. Guy or girl, finish out the summer and go into the fall being the truest version of yourself, with absolute commitment to your own happiness. Embrace life, do you to the fullest of your capabilities, and have a good time.
