This phenomenon is based on the idea that small causes have large effects.
So if we think about the butterfly effect in terms of our lives, seemingly small decisions, meaningless encounters, and inconsequential choices aren’t small, meaningless or inconsequential at all. A decision as small as making a wrong turn can have a major impact on our lives somewhere down the line.
That is why it is so important for us to be conscious and aware of the decisions we make, no matter how small they seem to be. The thoughts we have, the words we speak, and the company we keep all matter and affect the outcomes we receive in the future.
As intriguing as that is to think about, consider this — if a tiny change can have a great affect on a large, complex system, then imagine what massive changes can do.
One of the things that I love most about making the decision to record my podcast, Master Your Mission, and sharing my message of motivation is that it caused a chain effect of change. It has definitely changed me, and I hope that it influences those of you who listen.
If it does influence you, then I hope that you will go out and influence others just as I have influenced you. In turn, I hope that those that you’ve influenced will go out and influence people in a positive way too.
So one small decision that I made to record my thoughts on a podcast, or the small decision that you may have made in listening to it, might someday effect someone else’s life in a meaningful way. The decisions we make and the actions we take may seem small to us, but they add up to something much bigger.
And imagine if we all do this. If we make a decision to use our powers for good, to always put our best foot forward and strive for excellence, to always act with integrity, and to live life with intention by sharing our gifts. Before long those decisions we made will have affected everyone around us and everyone around them, and eventually the world.
You don’t have to start a podcast or even want to be an entrepreneur in order to be a part of this butterfly effect. You can make up your mind that you’ll be a force for good and a great influence to those around you — your friends and your family. When you make choices that lead to you living your best life, you’ll be making the choice that they’ll live theirs too.
